Built in the seventeenth century, this golden temple has so astonished its visitors that since its inception it has led it to be known as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
It is located within the church of Santo Domingo in the city of Puebla, not far from Mexico City, the Chapel of the Rosary could be the best example of the new Spanish Baroque style. Its purpose was to honor the Virgin Mary and teach the locals the practice of the rosary, of which the Dominicans
Built between the years 1650 and 1690, the Chapel of the Rosary presents an amazing artistic work, mixing the traditional Catholic symbols with those of the region under a prominent golden roof that makes the place shine with ethereal light from the windows just below it. Dome.
The chapel presents on its walls six paintings that tell the biblical story of Jesus from his birth to his debate with the doctors in the temple, all of whom present the Virgin Mary and are called Joy of the Virgin. Also under the paintings there is a succession of blue and white ceramic tiles known as Talaveras de Puebla, which form a gigantic rosary, with each account represented as the head of an angel.
Just below the dome there is an altar and a canopy. This canopy made of marble, but covered in gold, has a representation of Our Lady of the Rosary on the first level, a statue of Saint Dominic on the second, and a figure of the Archangel Gabriel on top.
